Continuing Christian Education(CCE)

You have asked to have your child(ren) baptized.  In doing so you are accepting the responsibility of training him/her in the practice of the faith.  It will be your duty to bring him/her up to keep God’s commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbor.  Do you clearly understand what you are undertaking?

These words may not ring a bell, but every parent who brings a son or daughter to the sacrament of baptism must answer that question in the affirmative.  By registering your child(ren) in our parish religious education program you fulfill a part of that promise you made to the church years ago.  This, however, is not enough.  Let’s review your promise to keep God’s commandments, all ten of them, in particular, the third commandment.

If you attend Sunday Mass, or the Saturday evening vigil, every week with the minor children who live with you, you observe the minimum requirement to keep holy the Lord’s Day.  There are many other ways, in addition, to make our feast of weekly Easter celebration a holy Sabbath, but attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion worthily must be the foundation.  The good news is that some of our parishioners obey faithfully God’s third commandment.  The bad news is that many more do not.

The purpose of this letter is to remind you of the promises you made to God and the body of Christ, his Church, and to remind you that your parish family wishes to prayerfully support and encourage you in the fulfillment of your Christian duty as parents.  The religious education programs we offer here are designed to assist you in your obligations. Please let us know how we can be of service to you in your vocation.  But we must also honestly recognize that we all owe a debt of worship to our Lord and God in the community of his faithful people, to which we have each been called to participate fully and actively through our consecration in the sacrament of baptism.

May the God of all goodness help you to execute your responsibilities as a faith filled steward and disciple of Christ Jesus, fulfilling your duties and obligations by everything you say and do.  Attend the weekend liturgy and receive Holy Communion every week as a family.

Whatever you do for the least one of these brothers and sisters of mine, you do for me.

This year we are happy to present a Religious Education Program, which has been prepared based on Archdiocesan guidelines, Parish guidelines and publisher tools. The purpose of this program is to familiarize you and your family with our expectations of a growing catholic. It is our hope we will enhance your Catholic knowledge and involvement in religious education.
